you have to start somewhere
Here it is, an inaugural post!
A while back I was describing to a friend an idea I had for a show, as to be showcasing my “in process stuff” — eloquent, I know — and she looked at me sideways and said, “isn’t that everything?” To which I said, “oh yeah!”
I think my imposter syndrome was showing, and since then I’ve been trying to be kinder to myself as I teach myself the processes I want to learn and brave the artistic landscape as I look for my teachers.
I picked up my first film camera in 2012, and still have so much to learn and grow in, and more recently I have been peeking over into the printmaking world. It’s really exciting to me how many mediums there are to play with in the space between photography and printmaking. A few of the alternative/printmaking processes I have been investigating are cyanotype, anthotype, risograph printing, and photo polymer printmaking - while also still trying to figure out the best way to use the 4x5 pinhole camera I built in a guided workshop, and how to make airy, magical images with my 35, 120 and 8mm cameras. This is where I’d like to share how I get from idea to reality. And what happens in between — process.
… to fly in the face of my perfectionism and honor the “getting there” part in all of these hands-on processes I am curious about.
